Before you get out the trowel and gloves, make sure you know how to save money on your garden!
It is finally turning warmer! The birds are chirping, the days are longer and it is time to get out into the garden!
It can be easy to go overboard and spend a lot of money to get the look you want. You can make yours beautiful without spending too much money. Here are a few simple money saving tips that anyone can follow.
Start with smaller plants. Smaller containers cost less than the larger plants. Your garden will look great even if the plants are not full size. Within a year or two they will reach a larger size and be just what you were hoping to find.
Make your own compost. The leaves and other yard debris makes the perfect mulch! You don’t have to put forth too much effort. Dried leaves are leaf mulch, which can attract earth worms another insects which can break it down and nourish your soul — for free!
Recyle water. You can use a barrel to catch the run off from your down spouts. Just remove a portion of the spout and put the barrel beneath it to catch the water as it runs off of your house. You can then use this to water your plants and trees — again for free!
Buy in bulk. When you need items for your landscaping, you can often find better deals when you purchase in bulk. However, most of us don’t need that large of a quantity. Find a friend (or two or three) and split the cost! You will all get the items you want for less than you’d pay otherwise.
Host a plant swap. Mature plants can be dug up and split and the half replanted back into the ground. This is a great way to help a friend with the plants they need and you can get some in return! You can even go shopping together and purchase larger pots and split them as well – helping you and your friend save.
