Heading off to college for the first time can be a scary endeavor. There are a lot of changes. This little freshman starter kit basket is a simple way to say you care – while making sure they have the things they need!
While many may have a part-time job, but money may still be tight. They may not have the extra funds to get some of the things they will need.
This Freshman Year Starter Kit Gift is a great way to say you care, and provide what they need before they leave, in a fun way! I love putting these together, and you will too! Each kit can vary for your student’s needs, but this is my basic kit, and typically what I always include.

FRESHMAN YEAR STARTER KIT SUPPLIES
Small Plastic Crate
Flip Flops
Roll of Quarters (for laundry or vending machines)
Kleenex
Highlighters
Can Opener
Ear Plugs
Sticky Notes
First Aid Kit
(other items you may want to add)
While you can fill your basket with anything you’d like, there are reasons why I listed these things:
First Aid Kit. This is something that most people don’t think about. It gives your student some band-aids and other things they may need. I do this because I’m contributing to the safety of the student.
Sticky notes. These are more than necessary in college. You can never have too many!
Earplugs. These are a must have if your student lives in the dorm and/or has a roommate. They help drown out noise if you need to study – but also help if you are trying to sleep and there is a party going on above your ceiling.
Can opener. This seems so simple, but a can opener is often the one item student’s don’t think about taking with them.
Roll of quarters (not pictured). Always a must for doing laundry! They can also come in handy when they need a quick soda or snack from the vending machine.
Highlighters. These are like the hair ties of college life. You always have millions, and they disappear every time you desperately need just one.
Kleenex. Help against a pesky cold, or even allergies. They’re just nice to have on hand, and something a college student doesn’t normally have.
Flip flops. These are needed for showers. By tossing in a pair they will have dedicated shower flip-flops.
Plastic crate. Not only does this serve as a great way to give the gift, but it is also a storage item for a small dorm room.
We’ve also designed and included a FREE printable label for you to pair with your gift, just like we did! Click the image below to download it your computer so you can print it for your crate. I recommend using card stock, but regular printer paper will work as well.
