ready for fall

Fall is in the air. The tree leaves will soon change to a vivid array of breathtaking colors and most importantly, pumpkin spice lattes are back! It’s time to cozy up your home and get ready for the cooler months that lie ahead. Getting your home ready for fall can be simple and fun!

GETTING YOUR HOME READY FOR FALL

1. Update Art

Bring fall color into your home by simply swapping out brightly colored art with subdued fall colors instead. Look for art with autumnal shades of gold, copper, and brown, to cozy up your space. Feeling crafty? Simply glue autumn leaves to canvas wrapped boards and display in groupings.

2. Pillows and Curtains

Add warmth to your interior space. Replace linen curtains with touchably soft velvet curtains. Velvet is the perfect cool-season fabric and is available in many muted tones. Also, swap out cotton throw pillows with cozy sweater pillows. You know the feeling you get when you put on your favorite sweater? These sweater pillows make you feel the same way.

3. Layer Rugs

Soften the floor under your feet. Add small rugs over larger rugs for that layered look that has taken over the design industry. Consider using faux animal rugs or cowhides to accent your living space; place under a coffee table, dinette set, or at the foot of the bed.

4. Outdoor Vignettes

Dress your porch with autumn inspired vignettes comprised of haystacks, pumpkins, gourds, and other seasonal decor.

While you are setting up your outdoor vignettes, make sure your home’s curb appeal is up to snuff. Do some routine maintenance to ensure a winter ready home and to protect your home’s value.

5. Elevate Bedding

There is nothing nicer than crawling into a warm toasty bed. Bring out the flannel sheets and put away the linen duvet cover for the season. Replace the duvet with a soft chenille or velvet comforter. A weighted comforter will make you feel cozy and you’ll sleep better too.

6. Lighting

It’s getting dark earlier these days, so you’ll need good task lighting. But harsh lighting isn’t ideal – consider ambience lighting to set the mood. Put chandeliers on dimmer switches and install 3-way light bulbs in lamps. Place candles in an unused fireplace or arrange different size candles on trays to dress table tops.

7. Jackets and Boots

Easy access to outdoor wear is essential this time of year. If you haven’t already, invest in a hall tree. Temporarily replace your foyer table with this cool season must have. This decorative piece is the perfect place to stow jackets, boots, umbrellas, hats and scarves.

8. Bring Fall Indoors

Bringing autumn color indoors is simple. Collect vibrantly colored leaves and place in clear glass vases and set atop tables, mantles and bookcases. Place pinecones and gourds in decorative bowls and use as centerpieces.

Likewise, bringing the smell of fall indoors is as simple as burning scented candles. From apple cider, to cinnamon sticks, to pumpkin pie, there is a scented candle for every emotion that fall exemplifies.
