As the seasons change, it is a good time to change the look of your room. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean new furniture or paint. Instead, you can make simple changes, which will save you money, while still giving your room a completely new look!
Pillows. Using new throw pillows on your furniture which not only co-ordinate with your color scheme, but also the season, is a quick way to change the look of a room. Add a new warm throw during the winter months to make your room look even warmer.
Window treatments. An easy way to completely transform the look of a room is to hang new curtains, drapes or valances. The cost of replacing these is much lower than paint (when you factor in your time) and can make a room look completely different! This shot taken by The Borrowed Abode shows what a difference curtains can make in a room.
Change your hardware. When it comes to your kitchen or bathroom, just updating the hardware can make an amazing difference in how your room looks. If you have shiny brass handles, why not try satin nickel or even oil-rubbed bronze instead? It is a bit of an investment to do this, but the cost of changing hardware is much less expensive than replacing cabinets or even refinishing them. You’ll be surprised at how different your room will look with this one small change.
Swap out artwork. If you have had the same photos hanging on your wall forever, why not update with a new piece or arrangement. You can often find deals on artwork at many stores (don’t forget to use your coupons). Even updating photos of your family with more recent shots — or going back and updating them with pictures of your kids when they were younger — can make a room look completely different. You might even look into adding a vinyl wall saying to totally transform your room.
Add a new rug. If you have hardwood floors, one easy way to change the look of your room is to add a new rug. You can usually find some good deals, which can make for an easy update to your room.
Declutter. There is a saying that less is more and that holds true with decorating. Having fewer items sitting on shelves, mantles and around your room can make it look cleaner, brighter and even larger. It is a simple way to change your room without spending a dime.
Rearrange the furniture. I do this at least two or three times a year. Just by moving your furniture in your room, you can transform it, giving it a totally different look. This is the best option — because it is FREE! Try to arrange your room to bring in your focal point such as a fireplace or even a television (if that is what you use your room for).
I am actually in the process of doing some of these things myself and will share my update when my changes are done! What have you done to update your rooms?
