I always love the idea of freshly baked bread, straight from the oven, but I never have the time to make it scratch the old-fashioned way. Beer bread is a simple way to have freshly baked bread, without all the tedious work of a traditional loaf.
Beer bread takes almost no time to prep – just 7 minutes. It’s my favorite way to have baked bread on hand, and it’s absolutely delicious. The beer works to make the bread light and fluffy, so no yeast is needed.
I have heard from other readers that they use soda in place of the beer. I’ve not tried that, so can’t vouch for it, but you can always give that a try.
The one question I am repeatedly asked is if the bread tastes like beer. No. It doesn’t. The beer just helps it quickly rise and makes it fluffy. It is used in lieu of yeast.
What is great about making beer bread is you can make it with ingredients you have on hand. It’s the perfect balance between salty and sweet. This buttery beer bread recipe is definitely a family favorite!
Don’t make it too long before dinner, or there may not be much left by the time your meal is ready! It is delicious and disappears quickly!
