This ICEE Halloween Costume is a LOT of fun for the kids and really easy to make!
Halloween is one of my kids’ favorite holidays. They love to find a fun new costume to wear and of course – they also love the candy.
For years, I just took them to the store to find a costume. I just did not have the desire to make one for them. However, this past year, they decided they wanted to get creative with me.
My youngest told me that she wanted to be a milk shake. I started to come up with ideas and then she changed her mind and deiced she wanted to be an Icee. (I was thankful I had not yet purchased anything).
That took me to doing some research to see what I could use to create all of the pieces of her costume. We both had so much fun being creative!
Other fun Halloween ideas:
SUPPLIES:
Large plastic bowl
3 sheets of poster board
1/2 yard red felt
1/4 yard white felt
1/2 yard turquoise felt
Red glitter glue
Glue gun and sticks
Polyester filling
2 cans of red spray paint
Empty wrapping paper tube (or poster board rolled into tube)
Red face makeup and hair spray (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
Make a “cup shape” with the poster board. Make sure that the top is about the width of your child’s shoulder. Tape them together to make the final cup shape. Have your child slide it up onto their body so that the top of the poster board is right at about neck level. You will then determine where you will want to cut two holes, so that they can slide their arms through.
Next, cut red and turquoise strips of felt and wrap the cup. I made mine around 5″ wide so that we had wide enough stripes. You may need to taper each strip as the bottom of your cup may be more narrow than the top. You can see how mine looked here:
Draw the letters I, C, E E onto the white felt and cut them out. Trace the edge of the letters with the red glitter glue. Once the glitter glue has dried, attach them to the front of the cup.
Go outside (or into a well ventilated area) and use the red spray paint to color the stuffing. I recommend doing this in two steps. Spray one coat and allow that to dry, Turn the stuffing over and spray the bottom.
Cut a hole in the bottom of the plastic bowl. This should be large enough to go over your child’s head (and also make sure you have no sharp edge which will be close to his/her face). Then, trace a circle of the top of the bowl onto a pice onto the pice of paper.
Cut a hole in the middle of it as well and then glue it to the top of the bowl (this is where you will place the stuffing). The entire lid should slide over your child’s head and rest on his or her shoulder.
Have your child put the bowl over their head. Place the wrapping paper tube inside to that it can stick out, like as straw. Cut this to the length you need and then spray paint it red (you can use poster board rolled into a tube if you do not have one available).
Have them put on the cup (red clothes work best if you have them). One the cup is in place, add the lid. Then, put the red Icee (aka stuffing) inside of the bowl and fill until it looks good. You can grab more stuffing and pin it to your child’s hair.
Use red face paint and/or red hairspray to give your child’s face an additional Icee look! And there you’ve got it – your very own ICEE Halloween costume!
