Net Worth Calculation Form
Every family's financial situation is unique, and managing money can feel confusing, especially when you're just starting to take control of your finances. The first step to gaining that control and clarity is understanding your net worth – but don’t worry! I've made it all much easier for you. I've put together a straightforward guide that you can follow.
Your net worth isn't as hard to calculate as you might think. It's really just a question of doing some basic math with two key sets of numbers in your life: your assets (what you own) and your liabilities (what you owe).
How to calculate your net worth
To calculate net worth, you subtract your total liabilities from your total assets.
Assets include things like the money in your checking and savings accounts, your retirement savings like a 401(k) or an IRA, the worth of your personal property, and any investments you have, such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds.
On the other hand, liabilities could be your auto loan, mortgage, personal loans, or credit card debt – essentially, anything you owe.
Once you've made those calculations, the number that's left over is your net worth.
Understanding your financial landscape
Knowing your net worth will give you a clear view of your financial landscape. Perhaps you'll discover you're doing better than you thought, and you're on your way to financial security. Or, you might find that you have some work to do to get your financial health on track. Either way, knowing where you stand will give you a solid basis for making decisions about things like budgeting, saving, and investing.
A free resource for you...
To simplify the process, I have created a downloadable Net Worth Calculation Form, which acts as a useful tool for you to organize all your financial info in one place and help you calculate your net worth.
