I created a beautiful container using a mason jar. I fill the jar with a candy bar assortment or snacks like M&Ms, jelly beans, or Skittles. Sometimes, I use dried berries, granola, or almonds to give it a healthier twist. I place a gift tag on the jar to minimize confusion as to whom the gift card belongs. Candy jars are suitable for last-minute gift ideas.

2. Creating a Puzzle Box

It is always fun when the recipient of the gift card has to solve a puzzle before accessing the gift card. The puzzle can be simple or advanced depending on my liking and whoever the gift card belongs to. I can construct a puzzle box using existing boxes, cardstock paper, or cardboard. I use this method of presenting a gift card to children or puzzle-loving adults.

There are maze boxes specifically designed for this purpose that can be bought. Purchasing a maze box is easier since I only have to open the maze, place the gift card inside, and place the box under a tree. To access the gift card, the recipient has to unlock the puzzle.

3. Making an Envelope Gift Card Holder

Presenting a gift card inside an envelope can be interesting, especially if it is handmade. A DIY origami envelope is simple and thoughtful and can prove to be a pretty sophisticated presentation for an otherwise simple gift card. It only requires a bit of decorative paper cut into a 9-inch square.

4. Placing a Gift Card Inside a Mug or Tumbler

Pairing a gift card with a small, affordable, but related item is a good idea. The person who receives my gift card will spend the money, but the item that held the gift card—in this case, the mug or tumbler—will be a reminder of the gift and the experience.

Since Christmas takes place during the winter season and everyone enjoys a hot drink during winter, I like presenting gift cards in mugs. Purchase a cute mug, fill it with crinkled paper shreds or tissue paper, and then insert the gift card halfway in, allowing it to peek out at the top. If I know the recipient’s hot beverage of choice, I sometimes tuck a few in the mug.

5. Putting It in a Snow Globe

Another interesting way to present a gift card is by creating a simple snow globe. All I need to make this snow globe is a mason jar, glitter, water, a hot glue gun, and any other available decoration suitable for the snow globe.

This method only works with plastic gift cards since they have to be submerged in water. If I am out of time and want to use a snow globe to make my presentation, I can purchase a ready-made snow globe specifically designed to hold a gift card.

6. Present the Gift Card With a Bottle

Another method of gift card presentation is by pairing it with the recipient’s beverage of choice. Attach the gift card to the recipient’s favorite wine bottle, hard liquor, or even a bag of coffee. This method is suitable for grab bags during a corporate party and last-minute Christmas gifts.

7. Put It in a Small Pouch

A gift card can also be paired with a tiny zippered pouch. There are different pouches available with cute images or sayings on them. However, I can decide to use one with a personal photo or the name of my loved one.

It’s fun opening the pouch to reveal the gift card. After removing and using the gift card, the pouch can be used as a wallet or purse. For students, I prefer to present the gift card in a slim zippered pencil case. Practical, right?

8. Creating a Pop-Up Card or Booklet

Another detailed and ingenious way of giving a gift card is to make a fun pop-up envelope or booklet that reveals the gift card and puts it center stage. Tutorials are available online that illustrate how to make this unique gift card presentation, and there are good designs to choose from.

9. Give Multiple Gift Cards as a Wreath

When giving individuals or families multiple gift cards, I creatively present them as a gift card wreath. A plain holiday wreath can be a grapevine or an artificial fir.

The gift cards are arranged around the wreath, and decorative clips are used to attach them. This gift card wreath presentation is attractive and can also be used as a decoration for several holidays to come.

10. Knitting a Gift Card Holder

Whenever I am feeling extra crafty, I crochet a DIY gift card holder with a Santa theme. This requires some crocheting knowledge or the enthusiasm to learn basic stitching. All the effort will result in a beautiful gift card holder that can also be used as a keepsake pouch or coin purse.

If you are well-versed in knitting or sewing, then a DIY gift card holder is definitely a creative idea to consider. When not up to the task of knitting, I purchase a ready-to-use gift card holder or recycle an already existing one I have lying around.

All I have to do is add some elements, such as buttons and trim. I can also hand stamp a design or message relevant to the recipient on the crocheted card holder.

11. Use Nested Gift Boxes

Nested boxes are interesting gifts that are guaranteed to elicit some laughter from the recipient. It allows a friend or family member to open several boxes before revealing the gift card. First, the gift card is placed in a small box and wrapped. Then, the wrapped box is placed in a bigger box, which is subsequently wrapped. The process is repeated over and over.

Unwrapping the boxes will prompt some laughter before the card recipient gets to it. Recycled cardboard boxes of different sizes can be used instead of purchasing nesting boxes.

It’s not always easy to find the best gift for friends and family; therefore, gift cards are the best option if I want to ensure my loved ones are happy during the Christmas holiday.

Finding the right gifts for working moms is easy if you know the mom in question. There’s no doubt that we do a lot as working moms. From running a household to making boardroom presentations and meeting deadlines, it can sometimes feel as if you don’t have enough in you to do it all. Yet, we do!

It’s kind of our superpower!

But, as a working mom myself, I know it can get overwhelming. I know that you can feel like it’s all just too much at times. That’s why I focus on staying organized and automating as much of my schedule as possible. People who know me know that finding me the best gift that aligns with that goal is always welcome.

However, not all moms are like me. Some moms, like almost all of us from time to time, don’t want gifts that are all about making their lives easier; some moms prefer indulgence; others like small, thoughtful presents; and some just want you to take over their household chores and responsibilities for a day while they go to the spa. We are all different.

Now, I know this might seem a bit odd, considering the fact that we are talking about super busy moms here. But I know from experience that even super-busy moms need a day off. The problem is we hardly ever find the time for that; we are just constantly on overdrive.

If you listen more closely, you will hear how much a busy working mom needs a break. They’ll probably mention some spa that they have always wanted to go to and finish it off by saying, “One of these days” or “Maybe sometime soon.”

That would be your cue! Make “sometime soon” come a lot faster!

Getting her a spa day, preferably with all the available treatments and therapies as options, would be perfect. The trick, however, is to make it a joint spa day for you and her.

This ensures that she goes. For most working moms, paying for the spa day won’t be the problem; finding the time to go and partake in this great gift will be the problem.

If you guys are going together, it will force, or at least guide, her hand towards actually setting a day aside for the experience as opposed to filling it up with chores and other responsibilities.

Make it a girl’s day out. You can even bring a few of your other friends to show how much you appreciate and value her.

I remember the first time I tried to give money as a gift. I was unsure, thinking it might come off as impersonal or lazy. But then I realized, almost everyone I know loves money and would prefer it to most other types of gifts.

I’ve been there, reaching into my wallet, pulling out a couple of bills, and feeling that pang of guilt – is this too impersonal? Too easy? But over time, I’ve learned that it’s not about just handing over the cash, it’s about the thought and creativity behind it.

Tips on How to Give Friends and Family Money as a Gift

Here are some fun and creative ways to give money as a gift that will not only leave the recipient mesmerized by the gift money but also happy that they have some extra cash.

The Money Pull

One of my favorite methods is the ‘Money Pull.’ I remember the first time I tried it, I was a bit nervous about my arts and crafts skills. But trust me, it’s easier than it sounds, and the result is worth it.

Here’s what you’ll need: A ruler, tape, craft knife, gift bag, tissue or some kind of fun stuffing, cutting mat, mini card (specific to the occasion), and, of course, your cash.

This will call for a bit of arts and crafts knowledge. To create a money pull, you are going to need a few things:

• A ruler
• Tape
• Craft knife
• Gift bag
• Tissue or some kind of fun stuffing
• Cutting mat
• Mini card (specific to the occasion)
• Ward of cash

Here’s what you do:

Step 1: Tape the cash together

Start by taping the cash together. Attach the short ends to one another using the tape so you have something that looks like a string of cash. Once that is done, fill out the mini card with a sweet message, seal the envelope, and add something nice on the front. You could say, “Pull for a pleasant surprise.”

Step 2: Tape the cash to the envelope

Now, tape one end of the “string of cash” to one short end of the envelope. Then, roll up the cash so it looks like a string of cash or a toilet paper roll.

Step 3: Make a slit in the gift bag

Using your ruler and craft knife, cut a slit on the side of the gift bag the size of the envelope’s width. The idea is to have the envelope stick out of that slit without it actually falling out. Be sure not to cut through the gift bag. You can use a cutting mat for this part.

Step 4: The presentation

Once you have made the slit and verified that the envelope fits through it perfectly, it’s time for the presentation. Place your roll of cash (attached to the envelope) in the gift bag. Slip half of the envelope through the slit so that the envelope and cash look like a toilet paper roll on the holder.

Test it to see if it works. Pull the envelope through the slit to see if the string of cash follows through seamlessly. If it works, perfect! Put it all back in and finish the presentation by adding some ribbons or decorated tissue paper.

Now, all you have to do is present your gift bag full of cash to the recipient! See, nice, creative, and even fun for you!

The Money Balloon

There are lots of things you can do with balloons to make them a bit more fun. In our case, one of the best and most fun and creative ways to give money as a gift to a loved one is to hide the cash inside balloons. Here are the steps for creating your own money balloons:

• You can get a big gift box and fill it up with beautifully designed balloons.
• Roll up a bill and put one in each balloon.
• Blow up the balloons with the bills inside them.
• Put the balloons in the gift box.
• Wrap it all up in a nice bow.

On the card of your money balloon, leave a loving message, and at the bottom, say, “PS: Pop balloons for a surprise!”

Hopefully, the recipient isn’t freaked out by the loud popping sounds.

The Money Bouquet

Now, I am going to start this off by saying something that might sound a little odd or slightly controversial: this kind of gift is best for the people in your life who love to post things on Instagram or TikTok.

The Money Bouquet is quite simple; it’s like a flower bouquet but laced with money. Here’s what you do:

• Get a flower bouquet (anything from roses to lilies).
• Fill that bouquet out with bills folded like funnels.

That’s it! That’s the money bouquet. The beauty of this is that if you want the bouquet to appear bigger than it really is, you don’t have to put in more bills (unless you want to). All you have to do is put in more flowers!

It’s a sweet way to give money to a loved one, especially if the relationship is romantic. Not a fan of the money bouquet? You can apply the same concepts and create a money wreath or money rosette.

Birthday Bills Bonanza

If you have a loved one’s birthday coming up and you have no idea what to get them, you can take advantage of this trick and just give the gift recipient some cold hard cash. Here’s what you’ll need for this monetary gift:

• Birthday card
• Money
• Ribbons

Find them a nice birthday card and write something sweet on it. Take the dollar bills, roll them up so they look like little candles, and then tape them to the back of the birthday card. Use the ribbon to cover the tape. Tie it all up in a nice little bow and present it to the birthday boy or girl.

Money Photo Album

This works if the person you are gifting is a close friend with whom you share lots of memories and, most importantly, pictures. Print out a few of your most iconic or epic pictures together and put them all in a physical album (Google Photos won’t work here).

Something nice, like a spider plant or a pathos. Better yet, get them one of those Japanese bonsai trees (although they do require a bit of work).

Now, the trick is to turn some of those leaves into money by wrapping a few banknotes around them. It’s a money tree! It’s sort of like the money bouquet but with a houseplant.

A Piggy Bank

Yes, I’m talking about an actual piggy bank. If you are gifting a child, money is always an excellent option. Not only does it make them feel a bit grown up, but it also gives them the freedom to buy whatever they want. It’s also a great incentive to save up money for something big they want later.

Anyway, a good way to gift a child money is to give them an actual piggy bank. The difference here is that you will have already put some money inside the piggy bank to get them started on their savings journey.

Note: This gift works best with children, and it is a fun way to teach them how to save money.

A Crypto Gift Card

This is probably the simplest and least controversial way to give someone money as a gift. Several cryptocurrency websites have gift cards you can actually buy and send to someone. The best part about this is that you can pass it off as an investment. You would have to choose the right cryptocurrency, though.

Most of them increase and decrease in value almost at random, but if you choose the right one and your loved one keeps the cryptocurrency you gift them for some time, that gift card could actually increase in value.

Besides, it’s a nice way to introduce your loved ones to cryptocurrency and the immense opportunities that space presents.

Even though giving a loved one money as a gift makes all the sense in the world, the social conventions surrounding it are still quite unclear. You’ve been invited to your friend’s wedding, and you can’t wait.  Then, you see it is a destination wedding.  There is going to be the cost of airfare, hotel, transportation, and food.  Then, there is the gift!?  Do you need to give something or not?  What is the etiquette for gift giving at a destination wedding?

According to a 2016 survey conducted by The Knot, 49% of all couples had a “destination wedding.”  A destination wedding is one that is held at least 200 or more away from their hometown.

This shouldn’t come as a big surprise. More and more budget-savvy couples are forgoing the often-overwhelming expense of a local ceremony and reception in favor of exchanging vows in memorable locations.  In the mainland U.S., the top locations for destination weddings are Florida, California, and Nevada, while couples looking for an even more exotic spot are most likely to choose the Caribbean, Mexico, or Hawaii. Because these are popular vacation locations as well, attending a destination wedding as a guest takes some forethought.

After all, why bother with decorations when a Caribbean sunset will do the trick? However, while destinations are often the ideal solution for brides and grooms, these getaway trips can raise financial concerns for guests.

DESTINATION WEDDING ETIQUETTE

If you’re invited to a destination wedding, there are many elements to consider. Can you afford the flight? Is there a minimum night stay at the resort? Many wedding-friendly hotels require that guests stay at least three to four nights, especially during the busy season. If the wedding is an adults-only affair and you have children, will you be able to find childcare or bribe their grandparents? Do you have enough vacation time at work? Make a list of possible expenses and decide if it’s even feasible for you to go.

If you can’t, and there are no plans for an “at-home” reception, feel free to send a gift (in the standard amount) when you post your RSVP. If there are plans to celebrate with friends and family after the wedding abroad, you can wait until you receive the invitation before you start picking out the perfect wedding gift.

Do you need to give a gift at a Destination Wedding?

If you are able to attend, most experts agree that since you’re already spending money to travel to a destination wedding, it’s okay to spend less than you normally would on a wedding gift. Some couples even explicitly tell guests not to buy gifts if they’re spending money on travel and accommodations.

If a card simply won’t do, use your friend or family member’s destination wedding as an opportunity to get creative. DIY wedding presents can be deeply meaningful. Use your skills to stitch keepsake pillowcases or create a one-of-a-kind art print for their home. Pick up something locally made that serves as a special reminder of their big day – just make sure it’s an item that can be easily packed into a suitcase or that you’re willing to haul (or ship) home for them.

Ask any mom what she wants for Mother’s Day and she usually just wants to know her family loves and appreciates her.  It is not about the gift, but the love that creates it.

Each year my family spoils me on Mother’s Day.  They bake me a cake and let me relax and not have to cook or do anything the entire day.  I also get gifts that are wonderful.  However, the ones I love the most are the ones which come from the heart, or that my children take the time to make themselves.

One that my kids have given to me many times is a Mother’s Day Coupon Book!  This fun printable coupon book is perfect for kids of all ages.  We’ve even made them in images which won’t require your colored ink — so your own kids can color them to personalize them as they would like!

As we all know, Halloween is just around the corner.  As a parent taking the kids trick-or-treating, it basically means, an endless supply of candy.

That candy is usually still around come Thanksgiving when you toss it into the trash can.  That seems like such a waste of money to me.  I’d rather give the kids a little something other than candy.

It is not even only my own kids I worry about. I know that many have allergies, and so I would hate to hand out food that might make someone sick….or something they can not eat.

That is why I created this list of 40 alternative non-candy Halloween treat ideas.  If you are like me in the way you plan Halloween, then this will be perfect for you!

1. Halloween bubbles. Lots of fun and something the kids will actually play with and use.

2. Mini Play-Doh.  Kids love this!  While I usually make my own homemade play dough, you can find these mini containers to hand out to kids.

3.  Freeze Pops.  The kids can take them home and toss them into the freezer to have a treat later on.

4. Halloween Erasers.  These are VERY affordable (just under $7 for 144).  So they not only cost less than candy, they last longer too!

5. Spider Rings.  These give me the creeps, but kids love them!  You can pick up 144 of them for less than $10!

6. Stampers.Lots of fun for the kids — and they can use them any time of the year if you get those that are not specific to Halloween.

7. Game and favor books.  Something for the kids to do — which makes them use those precious minds!

8.  Monster Tattoos.  Kids LOVE these temporary tattoos!

9. Stretchy Flying Bats.  These things are SO much fun (just make sure the kids play with them outside).

10. Caprisun.  Skip the food and toys and go for a beverage instead!

11. Microwave popcorn.  This is small and won’t take up too much space in those Halloween bags!  If you buy closer to Halloween, stores often sell bags with fun Halloween decorations on them too.

15. Glow bracelets.  These are fun for kids of all ages!

16.  Whistles. My kids LOVE whistles!  I found these fun Skeleton whistles, which are perfect for Halloween.

17. Fun Bandaids.  If your kids are like mine, they get a scratch and need a band-aid.  These are fun!  You can get a box and give 2 or 3 to each trick-or-treater.

18.  Rubber Duckies.  My kids still get a kick out of rubber duckies!!

19. Bouncy Balls.  I don’t know what it is about balls, but my kids love them!

20. Glow-in-the-Dark Sticky Eyes.  My oldest told me that this is perfect for 10 and 11 year old kids (so there you’ve got an expert opinion).

21.  Mandarin oranges with faces.  Instead of giving a sweet treat, give a healthy one instead.  Draw fun pumpkin faces on your oranges to give to the kids.

22.  Mini boxes of raisins.  Still something for them to eat – but not nearly as sweet!

23.  Mini crayons.  Kids love to draw and color, so these are perfect!

24. Slide whistles.  I mentioned whistles above, but these are a little different in that they are slide whistles.

A white elephant gift exchange is a fun spin on Christmas gift-giving. Instead of buying a gift for a specific person, you buy a basic gift that can work for anyone. The white elephant rules are pretty simple: Buy cheap and steal!

In the white elephant game, each person attending the Christmas party purchases an inexpensive gift to bring anonymously. (I recommend setting a price limit so everyone knows how much to spend.) Guests place their wrapped gifts on a table or beneath the tree.

DIRECTIONS FOR RUNNING A WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT PARTY

To start, everyone draws a number. The person who draws #1 selects any wrapped gift he or she wants to open. The second person has the option either to select a new present to open or to steal the gift opened by player #1. If player #2 steals, then player #1 selects a new gift to open.

When the third person has a turn, he or she can select from either player #1 or #2 and steal that gift. If a steal happens, the person who no longer has a gift opens another one. Play continues until all gifts have been opened.

In this game, you want to get the highest number, so you can select any gift you want – even if it has already been opened.

Many parents struggle when it comes to ideas for teacher gifts. Most instantly think apples or a candle. We’ve rounded up a list of teacher gift ideas they will absolutely adore – and won’t cost you a small fortune!

We’ve asked this question in the past, and many of you struggle with what in the world to get for your child’s teacher, coach, dance instructor, etc.  If you asked a teacher, he or she would say that she really doesn’t want anything at all.

We love to read books. While we love our regular chapter books, there is something we love even more when the holidays approach. That means it is time for Christmas Books!  But not just any books, those that are at the top of the must-read list.

I agree with the saying that Christmas is for children.  It is a magical time kids look forward to each and every year.

During this time of the year, the world seems slower at night.  It is quiet and cold.  You want to snuggle up inside with your kids. I want to make these moments measurable for both my kids and me.  The way we do this is to read books together.

It is our special time and helps us create memories that last a lifetime.  The added benefit is the important lessons that they can teach our kids.

While we read often, there are the Christmas books that we only read once a year.  It makes them extra special.  Our kids look forward to unboxing them and recalling the stories that they’ve grown to love.

I’ve created a list of some of our family favorite books.  Some of these books are funny while others are more serious.  These books are great for younger children and even older kids.   Grab a few new books to add to your own collection.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS BOOKS TO READ THIS YEAR

1. The Night Before Christmas

The Night Before Christmas is a classic story.  It is one that most adults still love because it is so traditional.  Many of you will remember reading it when you were a child.  Now that you are the adult, you get to pass your love for this story onto your own children.

The holidays are the time of the year when you want to give to everyone you care about.  It also means remembering (and thanking) those who provide various services for you all year long.

This includes postal works, trash collectors, hair dressers…the list goes on and on.  To be honest, it can be overwhelming to know not only how much to tip but everyone you should tip.  Tipping can also quickly take a toll on your holiday budget – if you go over board.

This holiday tipping guide can help you figure out who to tip and how much.

HOLIDAY TIPPING GUIDE

WHEN SHOULD YOU TIP?

Try to do it early in the holiday season, if possible.  If that does not work, try to do it before Christmas.  Otherwise, it may not seem genuine and like you forgot and were trying to make it up to them. (If you do forget, don’t do anything at all).

WHO DO YOU INCLUDE?

Start with the people who do the most or mean the most to you.  That may mean the day care provider or even the dog walker.  Make a list of everyone whom you’d love to give at tip to, with the priorities at the top.

Then, go through your holiday budget. There should be an item on there for your tips and outside gifts.  Figure out how much you can afford to give out as tips.  That will help you pair down your list to those whom you will give something to and those you will not.

Before you make your list, consider the following:

• Do you tip regularly? If so, you may pass on giving a holiday tip.
• The quality and frequency of the service they provide.
• How long have you worked with them?
• Your relationship with them.
• Common sense.

HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU TIP?

The amount varies greatly.  However, in not instance should it be extravagant or expensive.  In most cases, cash is acceptable.  However, there are instances where you may want to provide a small gift instead of money.

Some of the people to add to your list may include:

Nanny (or au pair).  This person lives with you and takes care of your children, so a personal gift would be better than cash.  However, if you wish to do a cash bonus, one week’s pay is a good amount to consider.

Child care provider. Small gifts work well in this situation. You should have your child make or buy something small for each person who takes care of them.  Cash gifts in the amount of $25 – $50 also work.

Babysitter.  If this is not the regular provider, give them a small tip equal to the amount of one night’s pay.

Live-in help. If you have a cook, housekeeper or other person who lives with you and provides these services, a personal gift is usually best.  If you wish to give cash, consider giving as much as one week’s pay.

Private nurse.  Cash is not usually a good idea in this situation.  A small gift works best.

Home health worker. You will want to check with the agency before giving any gift or tipping policies.  If allowed, something small (not cash) is best.

Housekeeper/cleaner.  Give a cash tip equal to as  much as one week’s pay.  You can also add in a personal gift, if you desire.

Hairdresser / Barber. In most cases, you tip on a regular basis, so a holiday tip is not necessary. If you do wish to tip, an amount equal to one session is a good amount to consider.

Personal trainer / Coach.  If possible, give a personal gift. If that is not an option, tip the amount equal to one session.

Massage therapist.  If you tip regularly, no tip is necessary. Otherwise, give a tip equal to one session or small gift.

Pet groomer. Only provide a gift or tip if the same person grooms your pet every time.  If so, give a small gift or tip equal to one session.

Dog walker / Pet sitter.  Provide a tip equal to up to one week’s pay. You may also opt for a small gift as well (or instead).

Personal Caregiver.  Anywhere from one week to one month’s pay or a small gift.

Garage attendant. No more than $30 or a small gift.

Pool cleaner. Cost of one cleaning – split amongst the crew.

Elevator attendant / Doorman.  No more than $20 per person.

Newspaper delivery person. Either a small gift or cash up to $25.

Package delivery person.  Only tip if you receive regular deliveries from this same person.  However, always check with the company regarding policies, as many may not allow tips or gifts.

Building super.  Any amount from $20 – $75 or a small gift.

Handyman.  A cash tip of no more than $40.

Trash collectors.  Check with regulations if they are city workers.  Tip anywhere from $10 – $30 each.

Yard/ Garden workers.  Tip $25 – $50 per person.

Mail carrier.  There are regulations established when it comes to gifts and tips for mail carriers.  If you do not abide by these rules, they will be unable to accept any gift from you.

“Under these federal regulations, carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas. However, cash and cash equivalents, such as checks or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash, must never be accepted in any amount. Furthermore, no employee may accept more than $50 worth of gifts from any one customer in any one calendar year period.Snack or gifts which are not part of a meal.”

FINAL THOUGHTS

It is not a requirement to tip, of course.  However, it is a great time of the year to thank these people for everything they do for you and your family.

If you are going to a baby shower, you may be tempted to get the mom-to-be a simple gift.  However, a fun way to give her a unique gift is to make a diaper wreath.

A diaper wreath is a fun way to give those boring, but yet necessary gifts, at a baby shower.  The best thing is that you can personalize it in any way you like.  I always add toys, socks, and washcloths, but you can really do just about anything you like.

This diaper wreath DIY is very simple to make. I promise that anyone can make this!  No expert handy skills are required.

HOW TO MAKE A BABY SHOWER DIAPER WREATH

SUPPLIES

18″ Wire Wreath Frame
Diapers (I used size 1)
Ribbon or String
Toys
Socks
Baby Wash Cloth
Safety Pins

Take the diapers and open them up and slide onto the frame.  Then, close them shut – with the diaper fold meeting the wire frame.  Then, attach them by tying a ribbon around the closed diaper.

Decorate the wreath by attaching baby items directly the diapers.  They are easy to remove and won’t do any damage to the diapers itself.

Finally, finish the look by using a washcloth to make the bow.  Pinch the washcloth in the middle and tie with string to keep it secure.  Then attach the bow with a safety pin to the top, center of the wreath.  You can fluff up the washcloth to make the bow a little more full.

I was really pleased with how well mine turned out! These are all items a new mom can use for her baby, and no unnecessary items. Dressing up a baby shower gift is so much more fun than just placing it in a gift bag! Have fun making yours!

A baby laundry basket gift is the perfect shower idea for the mom-to-be.  It is a fun and creative way to give her a practical gift with the things she needs.

I just love buying baby shower gifts! Celebrating new life, and getting to buy all those fun baby items is a blast! I always like to come up with a creative way to arrange my gift, and this fun baby laundry gift is easy to make.  No craft skills are necessary – so anyone can do it!

When it comes to what to put in a baby shower gift basket, the sky is the limit. However, it is always a good idea to give the parents-to-be things they really need.  Some ideas include: baby nail clippers, comb/brush, bibs, blunt nail scissors, first aid kit, diaper rash ointment cream, diapers, wipes, onesies, nasal aspirator, and thermometer.

Paper Banner
(2) 5/16″ Wooden Dowel Rods 36″ long

INSTRUCTIONS

Run the dowel rods through the side of the laundry basket.  Start from the top hole in the laundry basket and put the dowel rod through it from the inside of the basket. Push it down to the bottom hole, and push it back in the basket through the hole.   The dowels will both bow slightly as shown below.

Put the diapers and wipes at the bottom of the gift basket.  The reason plastic packages work better is that they have flexibility.  They also help to make your basket appear full.  Cover the wipes and diapers with the fleece blanket, so you only see the blanket.  But, don’t put it in tightly, as you want it to look natural – like items you would see in a laundry basket.

You can then add in additional baby items to fill the basket more.  Lay the onesies over the edge of the basket (so it looks like laundry falling out.  Items include diaper cream, lotion, soaps, nail clippers, combs, bibs – the sky is the limit.

Use four of the banners and write the letters B, A, B, Y on them.  I cut the banner string so that it would fit the width of the rods.  You could change this up by adding the baby’s name, the word BOY or GIRL…anything will work!

This baby laundry gift basket gift is easy to make and will be sure to be a hit!  Best of all, you can’t mess it up as there is not a right nor a wrong way to assemble it.

Each spring, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation week. It is the time of the year we thank our educators for all they do to teach our children. Many work very long hours and often even purchase supplies so our kids can continue to learn. There are many different ideas you can try. We made this for a teacher who loves to garden one year – and she loved it!

INSTRUCTIONS

To start, tie curly ribbon onto the handles of the tools.  It adds some whimsy and color to the basket.  Put them into your basket or watering can face down (safety first).

Next, add your thank you tag.  You can use the one blow, for free.  Print and hole punch the corner, so you can attach it to the basket with ribbon.  I used crafting scissors to make the edges decorative.  Grab your tag HERE.

Place tissue paper and other items in the basket.  My daughter signed her card and then we added it and were done!!

In less than 10 minutes, I had completely assembled the gift.  It was so easy and very affordable!  Make sure you check out your dollar bins and stores for some great items you can put together to make your own unique basket!!

I love when I can make a cute gift that someone will actually want, and that still has a handmade, personal touch to it. This DIY Graduation Cap Candy Jar is just that! Fill it with the graduate’s favorite candy, or a myriad of other things (see our list of ideas below!)

SUPPLIES:

Mason Jar
Black Construction Paper
Yellow Construction Paper
Scotch Tape
Hot Glue Gun
Scissors
Candies

Fill the jar with the candy or gift of your choice.  For instance, you might give a kindergartner a jar of pennies or your senior in high school his or her favorite candy (you could even HIDE money inside of the jar).

Cut out a strip of black construction paper that’s about 2″ wide. Wrap it around your jar and trim to fit as needed.  Attach using scotch tape.

Next,  cut out a 4″ x 4″ square of black construction paper, a small round circle (for the top of the cap) out of black construction paper, and a thin, 3″ strip of yellow construction paper. Glue the black square on the top of the strip you taped around the lid of the mason jar.

Cut the yellow strip into small strips, like a tassle.  Cut them up to only 2 1/2″, leaving the op of the strip in tact.  Glue your yellow “tassle” to the small black circle. Then glue those two pieces to the top, middle of the black square (see photo below)

Glue the Black square to the top of the round circle and you are done!  It is a simple way to give a gift to a graduate without being boring.

I love flowers, but not everyone feels that way! Mix it up with one of these five DIY non-floral bouquets the next time you need a gift idea. All of these are incredibly easy to make, and most of them are $5 or less, and take less than 10 minutes to make! It’s a win win!

SUPPLIES 

Vessel (bowl, flower pot, mug, bowl, etc)
Floral foam
Short wooden skewers
Colorful paper straws
Bouquet items
Beads or tissue paper

DIRECTIONS

The trick to all these bouquets is simple.  They all start with a vessel.  You can use a bowl, flower pot, mug, bowl…whatever you want.

Cut a piece of floral foam the same height as the container.  In most cases, you can just press it firmly into your container.  However, if your bowl or jar is too large, just use a bead of hot glue to secure it to the bottom.

Next, use short wooden skewers and arrange them in the foam.  Keep in mind that these will hold your items, so you want to be careful of the placement. Include one skewer for each item.  Make sure you push them into the foam so that they will stay in place.

Cover the skewers with colored straws.  You will then attach your items to the end of each straw.  A simple way to do this is to use a dab of hot glue.  It will not damage the products and will allow them to easily be removed after the bouquet has been received.

Once you’re done attaching all your straws and items, you can fill in your empty spaces so you don’t see any floral foam. Tissue paper is cheapest.  However, you can use glass beads or marbles instead.

NAIL POLISH BOQUETS

The first bouquet would be great for a pre-teen, or anyone who likes to do their nails! We used seven of the mini size OPI nail polishes here, but depending on who you’re buying it for, you could get different brands. You can find nail polish for $2 a bottle, or less, at Walmart.

CANDY BOUQUETS

We did a couple of things differently when creating this bouquet.  We pressed the foam into place and then filled the negative space with small wrapped cups.  You could do this for any type of candy.

We then cut a small square of tissue paper and lay it on your foam prior to pressing your skewers in. No need to hot glue the Reese’s onto the straws, a simple piece of tape will do the trick!

This would also be fun in any other candy bar. You use a small bag of mini Reese’s to fill the bowl, and a $1.00 pack os fun size candy bars for the “flowers” making this gift about $5.00 total.

SEEDS BOUQUETS

Seeds are such a fun alternative to cut flowers! These will provide flowers that give year round and are perfect for someone who likes to dig outdoors and has a green thumb! These seeds only run about $0.20 each at Walmart, so it makes this gift only about $4.00 total!

TEA BOUQUETS

This tea bouquet was so much fun to make! We used a mug for the base ( $0.88 at Walmart), a box of Celestial variety teas ($2.28 at Walmart), and green plastic spoons as “stems” ($0.97 at Walmart in the party section). What’s great about this is they have a mug to put the tea in, the tea, and a spoon to stir each tea! These make great get-well gifts, or even gifts for the tea-lover in your life!

Note: If you buy the Celestial Seasonings variety box, the packets are not in individual packets, which we found out the hard way, but have multiple tea bags insie each flavor packet. Hy-Vee sells individual tea bags for only $0.20 each, and that would be a much better option!

WAX MELTS BOUQUETS

Didn’t this Yankee Wax Tart bouquet turn out adorable?! We used six wax tarts to make this super cute bouquet (the tarts even look like flowers!). Yankee Wax Melts run about $1.99 a piece, so you may want to watch out for sales to help cut down on the cost of this bouquet. This is a perfect way to gift these tarts!
