From the Manufacturer
Phase 10 Card Game: From the makers of UNO comes a rummy-type card game with a challenging and exciting twist. The object of the game is to be the first player to complete 10 phases ranging from two sets of three, one run of seven, seven cards of one color, and more. The twist is that each phase to be completed is specific for each hand dealt. Those who complete the phase advance to the next, but those that don't must try again. Great family game for 2-6 players.

From the manufacturer
The Race Is On
Phase 10 is the rummy-type card game where players compete against one another to see who can complete 10 varied phrases first.
What’s In A Phase?
A phase is a combination of cards and can be composed of sets (multiple cards of the same value), runs (multiple cards in consecutive ascending order), cards of one color, or a combination of these. Each phase to be completed is specific to each hand dealt, meaning you need to complete the current phase in order to advance to the next one. Finish all 10 and win the game.
What’s in the Box?
Includes 108 cards and instructions.
Special Action Cards
Featured in each deck are 'Wild' and 'Skip' cards that deliver game-changing moments! A 'Wild' card can be used in place of a number card, as well as be used as any color to complete any phase, while a 'Skip' card causes your opponent to lose a turn.

The premise is simple enough: Each player is dealt 10 cards. During the first round, everyone needs to complete "phase 1" (which is 2 sets of 3.) Once you've accumulated and laid down your 2 sets of 3, you can play onto other people's sets to get cards out of your hand. When one person has no cards left in his or her hand, the round is over. All other players count the number of points left in their hands (an 8 = 8 points, etc.). Every player who laid down cards and passed "phase 1" will go onto "phase 2" during the next round. If you didn't pass "phase 1", you repeat it until you do. This game has a minimum of 10 hands, but in actuality it usually takes much longer. It's a fun game if you have time to invest, but it's definitely not quick like Crazy 8s or Uno.
Aside from this game being awesomely fun and wasting hours of my 6th grade class time, it's a good counting/ matching/ sorting/ color recognition game. It's also fun for the whole family. It's basic enough that the kids can have fun, but complex enough that the adults don't get bored. I'd recommend this to anyone who is into cards, game nights, or family activities that don't require electricity!
Its easy enough to pick up the gameplay, and you can get really competitive as you go along. It’s great for kids as well as adults, whether it’s two players or a group. I recommend slipping a piece of paper in the box (and having a pen nearby) to help keep score and track what phase you’re on, or having your phone nearby and keeping track in the “notes” section. Or, if you feel like being nerdy, a set of 10-sided dice for the phases.
I should also note that you may get the urge to play again after finishing a game, especially if you’re competitive like us and want a rematch. There’s been plenty of times, on the cruise and playing at home, where we’ve had two or three games in a row. Some phases go faster than others, which adds to the fun.
I recommend this to everyone to add to their game collection!
It can take hours to finish a single game so it's a great way to pass the time, but that also means that it's best suited for older audiences. Despite the stylistic similarities to UNO and recommended age group on the box, it's really best suited for players 14+ years old.
Pros:
-Involves strategy + luck
-Accommodates a big group of players
-Long-lasting games (good for killing time)
-Great for family with older kids (14+)
-Lightweight, portable case
Cons:
-Too long and difficult for young kids
-Long learning period
-Very long games (takes less time than Monopoly but more than LIFE to finish all of the rounds)
The basic rules are the same. Basically, if you put down your phase, you are safe! You won't have to pay anything. But if you do not put your phase down by the time someone discards all of their cards, you have to pay the person who discarded all of their cards first in that round. We just used quarters, but it definitely made the game a lot more competitive.
Great and durable quality of the cards!
